How to prevent diesel foaming

Many motorists, refueling at gas stations, are worried about foaming fuel. This not only complicates refueling, but also raises concerns about the quality of diesel fuel. Refueling time increases and the tank does not fill up completely.

Why does diesel foaming? Are there any reasons to refuse such diesel fuel? More often than not, all fears are completely in vain.

Reasons for foaming diesel fuel when refueling

In principle, the appearance of foam is a normal phenomenon and does not mean that diesel fuel is fake. Nowadays, many manufacturers add special additives to diesel engines to exclude the appearance of foam. But, among veterans of truckers, there is an opinion that a high-quality diesel engine has little foam and the cetane number is normal.

Why else can foam occur when refueling a diesel engine:

The air from the filling nozzle does not have time to escape, and it is automatically turned off, since the neck of the tank is narrow. The method of struggle – we do not insert the pistol completely, and do not fully press the feed lever.
A crane for refueling trucks and heavy vehicles is not suitable for passenger cars.
There are no additives that improve the quality of diesel fuel.
If air bubbles are observed, the lubricating qualities of the diesel fuel decrease, and this leads to rapid engine wear.
Some car enthusiasts believe that if there is even a little water in the diesel fuel, then it will foam. We check simply – with potassium permanganate, only not in a tank, but in a separate container. If there is water in the diesel fuel, then the manganese will dissolve, if it does not dissolve, then everything is normal.
There is an opinion that foaming of fuel is specially caused at gas stations, since the dispenser system counts by the volume of fuel, and not by mass. Thus, we overpay about 10 percent.

Use of additives
Let’s consider the standard indicators of foaming of diesel fuel, as well as indicators with the use of additives “Maxxrecovery”:

ased on the results of the BNPé NFM07-075 test shown in the table above, it can be concluded that Maxxrecovery additives provide a significant reduction in foaming and a decrease in foam decay time.
